Whitecaps players deliver books to Ridgemoor Park Montessori

Each school receiving books has hosted an assembly recognizing the importance of reading.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Before the West Michigan Whitecaps hosted the Great Lakes Loons this afternoon, some players visited a local school with a special gift for students.

Four players took a trip to Ridgemoor Park Montessori Wednesday, April 11, as part of the Whitecaps Community Foundation Book Donation Program.

Each school receiving books has hosted an assembly recognizing the importance of reading.

"Montessori education is all about community," Principal Forrest Clift said. "So we have it within the school and outside of the school. And so when the district said, 'hey, the Whitecaps have this wonderful opportunity, do your students want to participate?' we said, 'sure, we would love to!'"

Last month, the Whitecaps Community Foundation announced a donation of 5,000 books to 15 Grand Rapids schools.
