Kasey Kahne visits Muskegon

Kahne says he's growing more comfortable with his new team.

MUSKEGON, Mich.- NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne visited Muskegon on Wednesday morning.

Kahne was in town signing autographs at the grand opening of Ollie's Bargain Outlet at Sherman Center, located at 1730 East Sherman boulevard.

Kahne raced for hendrick Motorsports for the last six seasons. His red number 5 Chevy was a favorite among racing fans. This year, however, Kahne is racing with a new team: Leavine Family Racing.

"It takes time to get everything right. It takes time to understand each other," Kahne said. "It's not easy when the other guys you're racing have done it for awhile."

It's been a rough start to the 2018 season for Kahne, with just two top-20 finishes. It's the first time in his Monster Energy Cup Series career that he's failed to record a top-10 finish in the first seven races.

"We're slowly kind of picking up on it, I feel like Texas last week was our best run," said the winner of 18 career Cup Series races. "We had a top-15 car, which is great, and we can keep working from there. We came a ways already this year and I think we can keep going further."

Kahne will return to Michigan in June for the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
