Griffins' leading scorer Martin Frk resigns with Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have resigned forward Martin Frk to a one-year contract.

The Detroit Red Wings have resigned forward Martin Frk to a one-year contract.

The 23-year-old from the Czech Republic was the leading goal scorer for the Calder Cup Champion Griffins in 2016-17.

Frk scored the the game winner in the Griffins Calder Cup clinching win over Syracuse.

His 27 goals in 2016-17 matched his career high. He also had a career best 50 points in 65 games. He led the American Hockey League with 232 shots on goal.

Frk was Detroit's first pick, 49th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 18, 2016, he played in two games for the Hurricanes before being reclaimed by the Red Wings off waivers on Nov. 1, 2016.
