Grand Rapids Griffins host Whitecaps night to benefit Engel family

The special-edition jerseys will be auctioned off post-game with proceeds benefiting the Jake Engel family.

Baseball will be the theme of the night as the Grand Rapids Griffins team up with the West Michigan Whitecaps to present Whitecaps Night on Friday, March 16.

According to a press release, the Griffins will wear Whitecaps-inspired jerseys, in addition to stirrup-styled socks, blue gloves and blue pant shells, for their 7 p.m. game against the Rockford IceHogs.

The special-edition jerseys will be auctioned off post-game with proceeds benefiting the Jake Engel family. He passed away unexpectedly Feb. 6.

Engel was in his second season as a corporate sales account manager after starting with the Griffins as an intern in 2015, and he also spent time with the staffs of the West Michigan Whitecaps and Muskegon Lumberjacks.

A friend of Jake’s set up a GoFundMe page for his wife Rose and their daughter. If you'd like to donate, click here: https://www.gofundme.com/engelstrong.

If you'd like to attend the game, tickets are available at this link.
