North American International Auto Show 2012
DETROIT, Mich. (WZZM) - There is a sense of optimism, even a little swagger, at this year's North American International Auto Show.
Keith Crain, one of the country's leading automotive journalists, said, "There's a buzz in this show I haven't seen for the last three years. Call it 'cautious optimism', but it's exciting to see that."
Crain's Automotive News reports that presentations are more elaborate this year and more ambitious than a few years ago when "displays were reduced to little more than cars parked on rugs in the name of cost cutting."
Tuesday ended the two days of media previews. 5,000 journalists from all over the world jostled for position for the best pictures of shiny cars showcased by beautiful models.
General Motors' top North American executive said Tuesday, U.S. auto sales have been strong in January. North American President Mark Reuss says the sales growth that GM and the U.S. industry saw at the end of 2011 is continuing through the first third of this month.
