CASCADE TWP., MICH. - Family Christian Stores is clearing out its merchandise and it's available to the public starting this weekend. It's one of several retailers closing across the country.
When that happens, there are typically liquidations sales. This one is being held at Family Christian Stores corporate headquarters at 3500 Patterson Ave. in Cascade Twp.
Jennifer Steward is with Liquid Asset Partners, the company handling part of the liquidation. "There's a large quantity of cubicles, office chairs, filing cabinets."
The liquidation sale also includes some personalized items from the company, like platinum records from well-known Christian artists. “The items are from some of their record labels that they've had. Singers that are affiliated with Family Christian Stores."
The company is in the process of closing all 240 stores. As the nation’s largest retailer of Christian supplies, it's been trying to survive since it filed for bankruptcy a few years ago. Like other large retailers, it's been hit hard by the increase in online sales. "E-commerce is bigger than the brick and mortar. And I think most of the larger retailers that have been going out are competing with the smaller specialty stores. People like that personal service more."
The public can see the auction items on Saturday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. The public can bid on the items at any time, but the auction ends Monday morning at 10 a.m.
