The office of Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm says she's meeting in California with Google officials to encourage them to test their new ultrahigh speed fiber network in her state.

One town has changed its name to make it happen. In another the mayor has promised to name each first born child after internet giant Google. It's all part of an effort to win the company's favor and a super-fast fiber optic network. While the city of while Grand Rapids hasn't come up with any gimmicks there is a big push going on to compete.

The Salvation Army is facing three more weeks of urgent fundraising, or else it will forfeit a $1 million grant.

Grand Rapids Business Journal Updates

To Doug Lang, Google's search for places to install and test ultra high-speed broadband Internet service is like one of those blockbuster novels you can't put down.

The Grand Rapids Business Journal's 50 "Most Influential Women in West Michigan" were selected by a judging panel of executive women from across the state. The selection process included an extensive nomination process, with over 200 ballots received.

Independent Bank was honored with two MarCom Awards by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

Independent Bank offices across West Michigan will host a special community event on Friday, October 30.

Independent Bank's Monroe Center office will be hosting an opening night ArtPrize reception on September 23 at 6 pm. The bank is a venue for the art competition and display the work of 12 artists.
