Amish family thrown from buggy when hit by a car

MECOSTA TOWNSHIP, MICH. - An Amish couple and their 1-year-old son are in the hospital after their buggy was hit by a car.

Mecosta County Sheriff's deputies were called to the accident just before 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12. The 22-year-old driver from Morley says he was going southbound on Northland Drive near Polk Road when he came over the hill. He says the buggy was in the middle of the southbound lane as well.

The 25-year-old man, his 34-year-old wife and their son were all thrown out when the driver hit them.

They were all taken to Spectrum Hospital in Big Rapids with non-life threatening injuries.

No word if anyone faces any charges.

Deputies were assisted by Mecosta County EMS, Mecosta/Austin Fire and Rescue and Morley Fire and Rescue Units.
