MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - This week's wind storm may be to blame for a ship that ran aground in Muskegon.
Early this morning, the coal-carrying ship got stuck at the mouth of the Muskegon Lake channel. The 1,000 foot freighter is now free. It's believed to have run aground on a shoal created by big waves.
Next week, the Army Corps of Engineers will measure depths at the entrance to the Muskegon Lake channel as well as harbor entrances in Holland and Grand Haven.
