FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)- A 19-year-old Muskegon man was found dead near his car on U.S. 31 in Muskegon County Sunday morning after being struck by a passing truck with an attached snow plow.
Fruitport Township Police arrived on the scene at 12:45 a.m. They say Corey Francis McNett was driving his car on U.S. 31, just north of Shettler Road, when it ran out of gas.
McNett pulled off to the side of road to fill up his gas tank while his passenger, 17 year old Thomas Fazi, stayed inside the car.
While putting his gas can back in the trunk, McNett was struck by a truck with an attached snow plow driven by 32-year-old Jeremy Griffin.
The car was knocked off into a snowbank, and Police say McNett was dragged about 20 feet from his car.
McNett was found dead at the scene.
The 17-year-old passenger was taken to Hackley Hospital and released a short time later.
The 32-year-old driver was not injured.
At this time, Fruitport Township police do not believe alcohol played a factor in the crash.
Police are still investigating the accident.
