GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Laughfest went to the dogs Saturday.
Pet owners filled Rosa Parks Circle Saturday morning for an event called "What Makes Me Laugh About My Pet." Visitors were encouraged to dress up their pets and tell their stories for free prizes.
Organizers say the inspiration for Gilda's Club, Gilda Radner, had a soft spot for her dog, which gave her strength while battling cancer.
"Pets actually help promote healing with laughter," says organizer Jimme Le. "The whole story behind Gilda Radner is that she had a dog named Sparky who helped her with the healing process."
WZZM 13's Aaron Offseyer emceed Saturday's event. LaughFest wraps up Sunday.
