(WZZM)- When it comes to gasoline, drivers are looking for any price break they can find.
For some it is coming at the grocery store checkout lane. That is because D&W Fresh Market and Family Fare stores are increasing their fuel rewards program. During May, the stores' 5-cents per gallon discount is being increased to 10-cents per gallon. The dime per gallon savings requires a $50 grocery purchase. Use the receipt with bar-code and the discount can be redeemed at D&W Fresh Market and Family Fare Quick Stop fuel centers for up to two weeks after the grocery purchase.
Another way to save on gas is by paying with cash. At some stations, like the Crystal Flash station on Alpine Ave., customers who use cash pay five cents less per gallon. Cash purchases allow stations to avoid having to pay a fee like they have to with credit and debit card purchases.
Amy Hayward with Crystal Flash says, "We decided to discount it five cents a gallon if you pay with cash or a check. Either way, as long as the check is approved with all the appropriate information. It's picking up, the more people talk about it, the more we see that discount amount going up. It's working well for us."
Crystal Flash has offered the five cent discount on cash purchases for two years. Wednesday the station dropped its price for regular, unleaded gasoline to $4.23 per gallon.
