GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Grand Rapids is making a reputation for itself as a forward-thinking community. On Thursday, the area's bright minds gathered for a conference on innovation.
The TEDxGrandRapids conference drew a crowd of about 600 people to the Civic Theatre downtown.
A diverse group of 16 speakers from different professions and areas of expertise shared their personal stories of innovation.
One of the speakers says TEDx allows communities to come together and re-imagine the way they do things.
"A conference like this whose topic is innovation is a perfect way to bring everyone together to think together and have a shared vision of what a city like Grand Rapids can be," says Gabor George Burt, author of the book "Slingshot."
Nationally, the TEDx conferences started 20 years ago, focusing on technology, entertainment and design.
WZZM 13's Social Networking Coordinator Jessica Puchala attended the event and tweeted throughout the day's activities. You can follow her here on Twitter and here on Facebook.
