GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - American Seating Company will create at least six new factory jobs thanks to the recent passage of The Rapid millage.
They are called "Green Collar" jobs by the Apollo Alliance, a group of labor, business and environmental leaders promoting increased government spending on mass transit.
At a news conference Thursday, unionized American Seating workers cheered as American Seating president Ed Clark said: "It's very important that the federal, state and local funding for public transportation continue."
American Seating produces 80% of the city bus seats in the nation, among other products.
The Apollo Alliance urges an investment in $30 billion a year in public transit. It claims that investment would create 600,000 factory jobs in the nation, about 26,000 of them in Michigan.
