GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The Kent County Medical Examiner has determined a runner who collapsed and died during the Fifth Third River Bank Run died of a heart attack.
Jason Kinzler, 37, collapsed during the 25k Saturday just shy of the finish line. Kinzler was a former star linebacker at Grand Valley State University.
Kent County Medical Examiner Stephen Cohle says Kinzler died from 'sudden cardiac death due to a narrowing of the arteries.'
Cohle says it was not a congenital defect but instead coronary heart disease.
Kinzler leaves behind three children and a wife. He was inducted into GVSU's Hall of Fame in 2008.
