SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WZZM) - The Salad Chef is the all-in-one chopper and storage container that's supposed to be the fast an easy way to make fresh salads. The commercial makes it look like you can do multi-layered salads in minutes.

Mother-daughter duo Patti Beery and Katie Doucette helped me put it to the test. The Salad Chef is a full-size clear salad bowl. A press-down chopper clips onto the top with two different sized grates for big or small chunks. A lid is also included for easy storage.

We were very impressed at how well it chopped lettuce, tomatoes and eggs without squishing, as well as radishes, and mushrooms. You have to use a bit more force to chop through celery and onions. We also chopped a chicken breast, which worked as long as you don't mind uneven chunks. It also worked great for all kinds of fruit.

I was worried about the clean-up, but the makers thought of everything. With other choppers you'd have to use a special tool to scrape out the tiny grooves, but the Salad Chef has a button that pushes through the cracks allowing you to easily rinse off the remaining food.

The Salad Chef is a very well made product that really cuts down on prep time. Patti, Katie and I recommend it and hope to pick one up for ourselves.

We found them at Bed Bath & Beyond for $39.99 (be sure to bring in that 20% off coupon).
