CUTLERVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) - A father of six was killed just before noon Monday, in Cutlerville, when a tree fell on the man's garage.
38-year old Joseph Spegel, his wife, and six children were in a screened-in porch behind their home, when the winds picked up.
Sgt. Roger Zoppa, with the Kent County Sheriff's Department says, "They noticed that the wind and storm was getting kind of strong, so they decided to get out and they had to walk through the back yard to get to the house." As they moved from the porch to the house, the man went by the garage. It was then that the tree hit the garage, crushing Spegel.
Spegel's wife was also knocked down, but did not require treatment. None of the children were injured.
