GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The 90-year-old Fulton Street Farmers Market is in need of renovation and that public campaign started today.

"Over and over again, people have asked, 'When are we going to improve the market?' Today, we can say we've begun that process," said Diane Griffin of Griffin Properties and chair of the Our Goodness is Growing campaign.

The campaign is a $2 million fundraising effort.  The campaign has already raised $1.5 million in foundation, corporated and individual donations and pledges.

In the plans are a roof for the market, permanent covered open-air sheds, new parking areas, and a plaza with seating, bike parking and vendor overflow areas.  Also included is a small building with indoor stalls for a year-round marketplace.
