About 200 people packed Uccello's Sunday to watch the final match against Japan.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Soccer fans were glued to their televisions Sunday, as the U.S. women's soccer team tried to reclaim the World Cup.
About 200 people packed Uccello's on the East Beltline to watch the final match against Japan. A group meets at the restaurant for every U.S. soccer game to show support for the men's and women's teams. Although the U.S. team didn't win Sunday, fans say the game was still a big victory for women in the sport.
"The women's game has come so far in every other country in the world," says soccer fan Matt Roberts. "We're at the forefront of making sure that women have an opportunity as young girls and as they get older to get the proper training and get the right attitude in [soccer]."
The U.S. women's team won its last World Cup in 1999.
