GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Power is out in parts of downtown Grand Rapids.

Several landmarks, including the JW Marriott Hotel and the Grand Rapids Police Department were without power for a time this morning. The facilities ran on generators for necessary electric services during that time.

Consumers Energy says the power went out about 4:45 am. The company expected most power to be restored by 8:15 am. Consumers says the outage was due to an equipment failure at a substation.  About 700 customers lost power.

The Police Department had power restored before 8:00 am.

The JW Marriott was still without power at 8:05 am.

The power outage affected the cameras at WGRD radio and caused the WZZM 13 Morning News to miss the regular Free Beer & Hot Wings feature.
