(WZZM)- Even experts can not explain the latest rise in gas prices throughout the Midwest.  Despite a big drop in the price of oil, gas prices in the Grand Rapids area are about $3.70 a gallon.  That is not a dramatic rise, but other stations in the Midwest are up 35-cents from earlier this week.

Oil costs $85 a barrel right now, down about $15 in recent weeks.

We recently received an e-mail from a viewer who says the last time oil prices were so low, gas was $1 cheaper.  So we tried to figure out why gas is so expensive now.  We contacted fuel price analyst Patrick DeHaan from

He says, "The rise in gasoline prices is virtually unexplainable given the drop in oil prices compared to two weeks ago."

"While oil prices have rebounded from their low a few days ago, this hike certainly was a surprise, even to me," said DeHaan.
