Assembling the Healing Field

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- The tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks is this Sunday and West Michigan will remember with a special display called the Healing Field.

Tuesday night dozens of volunteers began assembling 3,200 flags.  Each flag represents a life lost on September 11, 2001.

In a special ceremony on Friday, all of the flags will be placed on the hill at Cannonsburg Ski Area in a special ceremony.  Each flag will have the name and biography of one of the September 11th victims.

Healing Field Coordinator Jeff Havemeier says, "Any individual can buy a flag for $75 and be a part of this commemoration and get to keep the flag."

The money raised from the sale of the flags will  go to local emergency first responders.

The Healing Field will be on display starting Friday.  It continues through Tuesday, Sept. 13 with a special memorial service at noon on Sunday, Sept. 11th at Cannonsburg Ski Area.
