Sarah Barringer wants to know who shot and killed her horse on her Morley property.

MORLEY, Mich. (WZZM) - A Mecosta County woman says someone deliberately shot and killed her horse in the pasture behind her house.

Now Sarah Barringer wants to know who and why.

"She was my baby," says Barringer. "She was my pride and joy."

Barringer remembers hearing gunfire Monday morning near her property in Morley, but she wasn't alarmed because it's almost deer season and neighbors might be target practicing.

Then she went outside and found her dead eight-year-old horse.

"She had a bullet hole in her and the bullet wound is right where you would shoot a deer for it to drop," says Barringer.  "It doesn't look like an accident."

The horse was shot in the heart, where deer hunters are taught to aim for a quick kill.

"To drop them you shoot right between the shoulder blade," says Barringer. "I'm a hunter, so I know."

Barringer is working with police to identify possible suspects.

"I don't think I have any enemies," she says. "I don't know if it was some kid being stupid, stupid neighbors, I don't know."

Before she is buried a veterinarian will remove the bullet from the horse to help police identify the gun and possibly the owner.

"It could have been my kids out here or me or the dogs," Barringer says. "It could have been anybody."
