Derryl Lafave and Kristopher Cheyne
Officer Trevor Slot
WALKER, Mich. (WZZM)- It has been just over two months since the loss of Walker police officer Trevor Slot and we're we're getting our first look at the chase that ended with his death.
The Michigan State Police released dashcam video of the October 13th chase through Muskegon, Kent and Ottawa counties.
WZZM 13 News obtained the video through a Freedom of Information Act request to the Michigan State Police. We reviewed the video, and are not going to show the portion where Officer Slot was hit and killed. But, leading up to it, you can clearly see several police agencies chasing the blue Bravada. You can also see one of the suspects try to flee from the scene.
It happened on October 13th. After robbing a bank in Ravenna, Kristopher Cheyne and Derryl Lafave led police on a high speed chase. They traveled east and west on I-96, firing shots at the officers.
As the suspects get off on the Eighth Avenue exit, that is where they hit and killed Officer Slot as he was trying to put down stop sticks.
After that, you can see one of the suspects trying to flee from the scene. Both Cheyne and Lafave were shot and killed by police. In a report from the Ottawa County Prosecutor, he stated the officers were justified in killing the two robbers.
