DETROIT (AP) -- A newspaper reports the total number of homicides in Detroit last year is expected to be more than 10 percent higher than in 2010.
The Detroit News, citing Detroit Police Department statistics and police reports, says Monday that the number of homicides rose to at least 346 in 2011 from 308 in 2010. The department is expected to release official 2011 figures this week.
Department officials plan to publicly discuss the 2011 total after official numbers are released.
