WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) - Most area adults get today off from work, being it's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  But some who don't -- don't tell their bosses -- are playing hooky.

It's all for a good cause, though. Dozens of employees are spending the day honoring MLK's greatest passion, to do service for their community. NextGen United Way partnered with Rogers High School in Wyoming to create "Extreme Makeover Library Edition."

Young adults from employers Aspen Surgical, Wolverine, Steelcase and other companies are skipping work to help high school students and the United Way revamp the school library.

Students got to work at 5:30 a.m. They'll get help painting bookcases, fixing library furniture, cleaning, restaging the media center, and looking into additional funding for future updates.

This is one of 29 MLK, Jr. Day of Service Projects in Michigan supported through grants.
