Griffins Great Skate Winterfest brings in the fun

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation will hold the Great Skate Winterfest this weekend. Events take place at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids.

Events start at noon on Saturday, with Winterfest, including a variety of winter events.

A 24 hour skating marathon starts at 10 pm Saturday and continues through 10 p.m. Sunday. Griffins players and coaches will be skating during that time, as well as members of the media. WZZM 13's Dan Harland will be there from midnight until 1 a.m. Sunday.  Derek Francis will be at the Great Skate from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Val Lego and Jennifer Pascua will be skating from 11 a.m. until noon Sunday. And Lauren Stanton will skate from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

There will also be a snowboarding rail constructed at Rosa Parks Circle. It will be open to the public from noon until 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. At 7 p.m. Saturday there will be a "Rail Jam" competition.

You can even take a dog sled ride at Winterfest between noon at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Most activities at Winterfest are free, but there is a small charge for some of the activities. Donations and money raised goes to the Griffins Youth Foundation.
