Norovirus cases increasing in Michigan

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- Local health department officials say a stomach virus is spreading in West Michigan and statewide.

The Muskegon County Health Department is reporting an increase in the number of norovirus reports. The virus typically causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramping. Symptoms may begin 12 to 48 hours after exposure and can last one to two days.

Norovirus is highly contagious and can not be prevented by using alcohol based hand sanitizer. Soap and water is the best way to prevent the spread of the virus.
