The Mitten Brewing Company, to open in May in old Leonard St. firehouse.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Two best friends are taking their love of beer and sports and starting a new business in Grand Rapids.
The Mitten Brewing Company is moving into a historic brick firehouse on West Leonard St. The co-owners, Chris Andrus and Max Trierweiler, will sell homemade brews and pizza in a 1,200 square foot tap room.
The friends say the craft beer trend is booming in Grand Rapids, but they say the west side has been overlooked for new breweries -- until now.
"The west side needs it and the west side deserves it, and this building especially deserves some recognition and a fresh start," says Andrus.
"Our concept, a microbrewery that sells beer, pizza, and is baseball themed kind of fits us," says Trierweiler. "We're big baseball fans and we wanted to make a place that we'd enjoy going to on a daily basis."
The Mitten Brewing Company will also brew non-alcoholic root beer. They owners hope to open in May with seating for 65 people.
