Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - John Jenkins finished with 26 points to lead
the Vanderbilt Commodores over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, 84-77, in
non-conference action at Memorial Gym.
For the Commodores (16-5), Festus Ezeli added 21 points, Jeffery Taylor scored
17 points and Lance Goulbourne finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Blue Raiders (20-3) were led by LaRon Dendy with 22 points. JT Sulton
netted 12 points while Marcos Knight and Bruce Massey each with 10 points.
MTSU shot the ball very well to start the game, hitting on 60.9 percent of
their field goals, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. Vandy shot just
43.8 percent from the field, including 4-of-11 from three-point range.
The Commodores were able to take a 44-39 lead into intermission by
scoring 11 points off of turnovers and outscoring MTSU from the free-throw
line 12-6.
Vandy improved their shooting greatly after halftime, connecting on 59.1
percent of their shots from the field, but just 2-of-8 on three-point
attempts. MTSU still shot the ball well, hitting on 54.2 percent of their
field goals, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. The Blue Raiders led by
one, 75-74, with three and half minutes to play, but the Commodores finished
the contest on an 10-2 run and won for the 10th time in their last 11 outings,
and in the process snapped a 12-game winning streak for the Blue Raiders.
Vandy was able to convert 14 MTSU turnovers into 17 points. MTSU lost despite
shooting 57.4 percent from the field for the game and 53.8 percent from three-
point range.
