Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Robert Covington's 22 points paced five
players in double figures as the Tennessee State Tigers got past the Eastern
Kentucky Colonels 91-85 in double overtime in Ohio Valley Conference action at
the Gentry Center.
Kenny Moore scored 15 points for the Tigers (13-10, 6-4 OVC) who have won five
of their last six. Kellen Thornton added 14 points with M.J. Rhett and Patrick
Miller netting 11 each. Covington and Miller each claimed eight rebounds.
Mike Dinunno's 33 points led the Colonels (12-11, 5-5) who have lost their
last two. Jaron Jones finished with 30 points, eight rebounds, and six
assists.
Eastern Kentucky led 38-32 at halftime after shooting 60 percent from the
floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Colonels led by 12 early in the second half before Tennessee State
rallied to take a 54-48 lead with 9:46 left in regulation, then recovered from
a five-point deficit over the final 2:44 to force a 70-70 tie after
regulation.
Tennessee State led three times in the first overtime but Eastern Kentucky
forced a second extra period.
Tennessee State never trailed in the second extra period. Miller hit two key
foul shots with 28 seconds left.
The game featured 19 lead changes and 16 ties.
