LUDINGTON, Michigan (WZZM) - Two people are in custody in Kentucky related to the murders of 28 year old Fernando Ramirez and 18 year old Lacey Bentley in Mason County, Michigan.
Police in Ohio County, Kentucky are holding Patrick Bentley and Lashawn Whipple on charges unrelated to the murders.
The Mason County Sheriff's Department says Patrick Bentley and Whipple apparently ran out of gas. They were walking to get gas when a police officer stopped to help. But, the two ran from the officer. They were later caught. When Kentucky Police investigated further, they learned the two were driving a stolen car from Scottville, Michigan.
Mason County police checked on the well being of the people living in that house, they found Ramirez and Lacey Bentley dead. The Mason County Sheriff's Department says Lacey Bentley was shot 8 times and Ramirez was strangled. Investigators believe Lacey Bentley and Ramirez were girlfriend and boyfriend. But, they say Ramirez was also married.
Patrick and Lacey Bentley are brother and sister.
The Mason County Sheriff's Department and Prosecutor's Office plan to extradite Patrick Bentley and Lashawn Whipple to Michigan. They could face five felonies, including open murder, car theft, and attempted arson.
Bentley and Whipple were found in Kentucky with a 16 year old autistic teenager from Michigan. That teen does not face charges.
