DENVER (AP) -- Snow totals are mounting rapidly along the Front Range of the Rockies as a powerful winter storm sweeps across Colorado.

Officials are warning that avalanches are possible in the mountains.

West of Denver, the town of Pinecliff has two feet of snow on the ground, while Boulder has received 14 inches. The National Weather Service says snow has been falling at 2 inches an hour on the state's Eastern Plains, producing blizzard conditions.

More than 600 flights have been canceled at Denver International Airport, while parts of Interstate 70 east of the airport have been closed. However, the state's main north-south artery, I-25, has been reopened after numerous accidents were cleared.

The storm stretches as far south as New Mexico, where transportation officials say highways are snow packed and icy.
Blizzard and winter storm warnings extend into Kansas, Wyoming and Nebraska.

The National Weather Service says some communities along the Front Range could see another foot of snow before the storm moves out tomorrow.
