GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Heart disease is the top killer of Americans.
Saturday night, two schools did their part to stop it. Ottawa Hills High School hosted the Red Out game against Forest Hills Eastern.
Basketball fans showed their support by wearing red shirts from the American Heart Association. Both schools sold the $10 shirts all week. The proceeds will go to the American Heart Association for education and research.
"The school came together to support the cause because they really care about making a difference in the community, and wanted to go red," said Amanda Peterson, youth marketing director for the American Heart Association.
The American Heart Association says 80 percent of heart disease cases are preventable.
