Long Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Larry Anderson paced five scorers in double
figures with 16 points as Long Beach State upended CS-Northridge 75-67 in a
Big West tilt at the Walter Pyramid.
T.J. Robinson had a 14 point, 11 rebound double-double for Long Beach State
(17-6, 10-0 Big West) which has now won 10 straight. James Ennis added 13,
Eugene Phelps put in 12 and Mike Caffey chipped in 11 off the bench as well
for the 49ers.
Josh Greene poured in 26 points for CS-Northridge (6-15, 2-8). Stephen Maxwell
added 10 points and Stephan Hicks had 10 rebounds and was a point short of a
double-double as well for the Matadors who have loss five of their last six.
The game remained tight throughout the first half with Long Beach State
entering the locker room leading 37-35. The 49ers shot 46.4 percent in the
opening stanza while CS-Northridge was just behind at 46.2 percent.
In the second half both teams cooled with CS-Northridge shooting 37.5 percent
and Long Beach State even worse at 35.7 percent. The 49ers took advantage of a
16-6 edge in points from the free throw line to overcome the poor shooting and
capture a victory.
CS-Northridge still managed to win the battle on the glass 40-38.
