UPDATE AT 9:25 P.M. (WZZM) -- Police are offering more information on the fugitive they are looking for following a high-speed chase in Kalamazoo.

He is Eugene Marr Jr., 21, but goes by the nickname "Bear."  He is 5'7", 145 lbs., and was last seen wearing a grey cap and a black sweatshirt with white printing.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WZZM) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are searching for a "wanted fugitive" who carjacked a vehicle, ran into a police vehicle, and got away after a high-speed chase.

It happened around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday when officers spotted Eugene Marr riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle near N. Westnedge Ave. and Mabel St. in Kalamazoo.

Officers say they attempted to stop the vehicle, then Marr began fighting with the driver.  They say Marr was able to put the vehicle into gear and begin driving off.  The driver of the car was forced out the door and dragged a short distance, leaving the person with minor injuries.

Investigators say Marr ran into a police cruiser as he was pulling away from the scene, injuring the officer.

Police began chasing Marr through Kalamazoo city and county, but they say he was able to get away from them by recklessly driving at high speeds.

Officers recovered the vehicle a short time later.  They believe Marr's friends picked him up and took him to a "hideout."

Marr is now wanted on charges of carjacking, assault on a police officer causing injury, fleeing and eluding, and numerous outstanding warrants.

Anyone who witnessed the carjacking, the chase, or who knows where Marr is currently is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at (269) 337-8994, or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
