FENNVILLE, Mich (WZZM) -- It's been nearly a year since his tragic death and now Fennville High School student athlete Wes Leonard will be honored with a special tribute. Leonard lived a short life, but he had a profound impact on the lives of those who knew him, and on the court.
The school will induct Leonard into the Fennville Hall of Fame in between the boys and girls basketball games Friday evening. His jersey, number 35, will go up in the rafters as a permanent reminder of Leonard's accomplishments. He died March 3rd last year after suffering cardiac arrest on the basketball court. The 16-year-old star athlete was among the most achieved in Fennville's athletic history.
Leonard earned seven varsity letters and led his teams to conference and district championships. He accumulated more than 1,100 career points and of course led last year's team to a record 20-0 regular season.
The ceremony will take place around 6:30 pm. The school will unveil a banner honoring Wes Leonard as well as present his parents with a commemorative plaque.
