St. Andrew's Cathedral in Grand Rapids - Ash Wednesday

(WZZM) - Today is Ash Wednesday, which starts the season of Lent for Christians around the world.

Lent is a 40-day period of reflection and fasting that culminates at Easter.  Many people give up something during this period as a personal sacrifice.  Many sacrifices include specific dietary treats, like sweets or meat.  Increasingly, people are sacrificing technological goodies, like Facebook or texting.

Several church and organizations are also hosting Fish Fry Dinners on Fridays throughout Lent to help people meet some of their dietary sacrifices.  To see a list that is being continually updated, click here.

Several churches this morning held Ash Wednesday services.
