GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Driving to LaughFest is no problem. Parking on the other hand can feel like a bad joke. Pam Ritsema with Grand Rapids Parking Services, says the city is staffing parking to make sure things run smoothly.
"We have over 10,000 spaces downtown. Not everyone comes one person to a car so we could handle 20,000 to 30,000 people at a time," explained Ritsema.
Ritsema says if you're driving into town from the north, avoid Fulton Street which is under construction. Take the Pearl or Ottawa Exit, or take Plainfield to downtown. Drivers from the south should take US-131 to the downtown exit.
As for parking, Ritsema says try the Pearl and Ionia ramp. It's a seven minute walk from everything. Also, below city hall there are 900 spaces.
Plus Ritsema says the gallery on Fulton and Division is a spot not a lot of people know about and is a good place to park.
During the event, Grand Rapids Police Department is offering security, but with a smooth event last year, they're not expecting a need for extra officers. Still they'll add officers to Rosa Parks Circle outdoor events.
