WZZM Wins Big in News Coverage at MAB!!

Grand Rapids, MI - WZZM 13, the Gannett owned ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan wins nine awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Awards including BEST NEWSCAST! WZZM 13 also swept the Best Reporter category.

Congratulations to Multimedia Journalists Sarah Barwacz for taking first place and Brent Ashcroft for winning the Merit award.

"We are honored to be recognized by our peers in the industry," said Janet Mason WZZM 13 President and General Manager. "We are very proud of the work of our journalists. At the same time, we know the true measure of success is meeting the expectation of our viewers."

WZZM 13 also swept the "Feature Use of Medium" category with two stories. "Birdhouses for Healing" is an amazing tale of two families hit with the sorrow of a lost Military son. "Alyssia" is about the heart wrenching decision of a young girl who decides to have part of her leg removed rather than face a painful genetic condition.

WZZM 13 placed first in Best Photojournalist with our Lakeshore Multimedia Journalist Jon Mills. We also won a first place for Best Weather for team coverage of a storm last November. "This reflects the proven accuracy of the entire WZZM 13 Weather team," said News & Information Director Stanton Tang.

WZZM 13 also won Merit Awards in Mini Documentary or Series and Community Involvement.
