(WZZM) - The stress of Tax Day may be one possible factor for the increase in fatal traffic accidents.
A 30-year study recently released by the Journal of the American Medical Association shows fatal accidents on tax day were six percent higher than on other April days.
Researchers say besides stress, there may be more motorists on the road, taking routes not in their everyday routines.
Or they may drive recklessly to the post office to meet the deadline.
However, data WZZM obtained from Michigan State Police shows no significant trend.
MSP provided information going back 10 years for Kent County and it shows no more fatal traffic deaths on tax day compared to other days.
MSP Communications Chief Anne Readett says that may due to the fact vehicles have become much safer in the last 10 years.
