MECOSTA COUNTY, Michigan (WZZM) - Michigan State Police are searching for a wanted man in the area of Northland Drive and 4 Mile in southern Mecosta County.
Morley- Stanwood Schools were on lockdown for part of Thursday because of the search.
Alan Steven Phelps, 35, is wanted for several felonies, as well as several pending charges based on a police chase from Wednesday night.
State Police say a trooper tried to stop a vehicle driven by Phelps Wednesday night for a routine traffic violation. However, Phelps drove away, starting a police chase.
During that chase, Phelps' vehicle crashed into another vehicle, causing it to roll over.
Law enforcement continued to chase Phelps, but lost track of him as some point Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning, Phelps was located at a residence in southern Mecosta County. But, he ran away from that house. Michigan State Police began searching a perimeter around the area from the air and on the ground with police dogs.
All Morley-Stanwood School buildings were on external lockdown at the request of law enforcement. The Superintendent says that means all outside doors and windows were locked and students and staff cannot move from building to building. However, classes took place as normal inside. The lockdown was later lifted.
