(WZZM) -- In this week's In the Kitchen with Kal, Alana Nehring and Kal prepare a Texas sheet cake for dessert.

Here's the recipe:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease & flour an 11x17 ½ sheet pan with sides

2 cups Sugar

2 cups Flour

A pinch of salt

Stir together in a large bowl and set aside

Put the following into a sauce pan:

1 stick Butter

3 ½ heaping Tablespoons Cocoa

½ cup Vegetable Oil

1 cup water or leftover Coffee  (I use coffee)

Mix together over medium heat until the butter is melted and everything is blended together.

Remove from the heat and add to the flour & sugar. Mix together well with a spoon or whisk.

Add:

½ cup Buttermilk

2 Eggs

1 teaspoon Baking Soda

1 teaspoon Vanilla

Mix all together until smooth and pour into the prepared baking pan. Spread out evenly, put into the preheated oven and bake for 22-22 minutes. Test by touching the center of the cake; if it springs back, it is done. DO NOT OVERBAKE

Frosting:

In the same saucepan:

1 stick Butter

1/3 cup Milk

3 ½ heaping Tablespoons Cocoa

Heat until well blended over medium heat and then add to:

1 box (1#) Powdered Sugar

1 teaspoon Vanilla

Mix until all of this is smooth and then spread on warm cake. Top will chopped nuts if desired. Cool before cutting into 32 pieces.
