WALKER, Mich. (WZZM)-Some cats rescued from a hoarding situation in Kent County have new homes.

Saturday, 16 of the 49 cats taken from an Ada-Lowell area home went up for adoption at the Humane Society of West Michigan. The shelter stepped in when a Kent County man discovered dozens of cats in his daughter's old room on June 5. A spokeswoman for the Humane Society of West Michigan says at least ten of the rescued cats were adopted Saturday, as well as six other cats and two dogs. Many of the rescued cats are still being medically treated; they'll be available for adoption within the next few weeks.

Meanwhile the Kent County prosecutor must still decide if the animals' former owner will face any charges.
