GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - City commissioners today approved an average $27 reduction in the property tax millage rate.   Mayor George Heartwell says it's proof the city's efforts to transform itself and find more efficiencies is paying off.

Receiving a lot of the credit is a more efficient way of collecting garbage that allowed for a reduction in the refuse collection millage from 1.8 mills to 1.6.

Last year, the average residential property in the city of Grand Rapids had a taxable value of $47,704 with an average property tax bill of $399.34.   This year, the average property's taxable value is $45,564 and the average tax bill will be $372.33.
