Oliver Emerson waves to his adoring crowd.
HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) A Holland boy battling brain cancer got a birthday surprise from 2,000 people today.
Oliver Emerson asked for a Toys R Us shopping spree for his sixth birthday as part of the Make a Wish Foundation. A family friend thought that it would be a great surprise for Oliver's limo to stop outside Devos Fieldhouse with the crowd ready to greet him. Oliver was also given a soccer ball and jersey at the surprise.
"Its not all about medicine," says Mary Ann Permesang, Oliver's mother. "Its also about the care and the prayers and all the positive thoughts people have been sending our way to be able to celebrate a sixth birthday, because we weren't even sure he was going to be able to, so this has been amazing."
Oliver even showed off his excitement with a few dance moves. Organizers say he filled three or four carts at Toys R Us.
