SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities are crediting the quick actions of two people in southwestern Michigan for saving the life of a 66-year-old woman who became disoriented while swimming.
The Cass County sheriff's department says Kathleen Baliunas of Dowagiac was swimming at Magician Lake in Silver Creek Township on Sunday when she began to struggle and disappeared beneath the water. The department says Juan Bethancourt of Plainfield, Ill., jumped in after her from a passing boat.
After Bethancourt pulled Baliunas onto a dock, 58-year-old registered nurse Shelly Hennen began CPR. The department says Baliunas was revived by the time deputies arrived.
Baliunas was taken to an area hospital. The department said Monday she was listed in stable condition.
