ARLINGTON, Tex. (DETROIT FREE PRESS) - The Detroit Tigers scored five runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Texas Rangers, 8-2, tonight in Arlington.

Miguel Cabrera led the Tigers offensive attack, driving in three runs. Jhonny Peralta had two RBIs.

Detroit chased Texas rookie Justin Grimm from the game after one-plus innings.

Rick Porcello (5-5) pitched six innings, allowing one earned run and picking up the win.

Josh Hamilton provided the scoring for Texas with a two-run home run in the seventh.

The Tigers picked up a full game on the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central and now stand two games out of first. Chicago lost at Minnesota, 4-1. The Indians, who were beaten by the Yankees, 7-1, are in second place, a half-game back.
