(WZZM) - Your plants need a deep infrequent watering right now, as the temperatue gets above and stays above average. Many of the plants in our landscape are still trying to recover from a spring that gave them significant frost damage.

Greenthumb Rick Vuyst says that watering from the crown down can also help wipe out spider mites that tend to be prevalent in the summer.

One to two inches of mulch really helps this time of year to keep your plants base cool. It's also a good idea to stir-up your mulch a bit, to keep the water from running over it.
