The Yorktown arrives in Saugatuck

SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WZZM) - The Yorktown is on its way once again, after making history along the lakeshore.  It became the first American cruise ship to dock at Saugatuck harbor in more than eighty years.  The Yorktown and its 138 passengers left the dock just after 7pm.

Last week, the cruise ship departed from Detroit on a several stop tour through Lake Huron and Michigan.

Passengers say the stop in Saugatuck was well worth it.

"It takes you back to another time with the band stand and old houses.  Everything is friendly and clean like it should be," says passenger Paula Knickerbocker.

"The people have been spectacular. They've been very warm, very friendly, very inquisitive about the ship. Its a place we'd come back to without thinking twice about it," says passenger Ken Kimery.

The Yorktown arrived just weeks after the departure of the S.S. Keewatin.  The Yorktown's next stop is Chicago. It will return to Saugatuck on several other scheduled voyages later this summer.
